How to Use Photo to Sketch

1. Upload a photo — click the drop box, drag a file in, or paste with Ctrl/⌘+V.
2. Drag the line strength slider to make the pencil lines bolder or softer.
3. Watch the live preview redraw as you adjust.
4. Choose the output format — PNG for a lossless result, JPG or WebP for a smaller file.
5. Download the sketch.

How the sketch effect works

The tool converts the photo to grayscale, inverts that copy, blurs the inverted layer, then blends the two with a color-dodge operation. Dark outlines stay strong while flat areas turn white, which mimics pencil hatching and graphite shading.

Choosing line strength

A higher line strength deepens the outlines and keeps more detail; lower values produce a soft, faint sketch. Around 60–80% works well for portraits, while landscapes often look better with a stronger setting.
